Carbon8 — Our Mission

Our mission in Malawi: rooted locally, growing together.

Carbon8 Malawi is developing early community-first climate concepts — shaped with local partners from the start, and explained in plain language along the way.

We are in the early stages: listening first, co-designing small pilots, and documenting everything in the open so communities, civic partners, and funders can shape what comes next together.

  1. (01)

    Community-led

Early cookstove, forest, and livelihood concepts shaped alongside Malawian partners — led by the communities they serve. Nothing moves forward without local ownership.

  2. (02)

    Plain-language finance

Climate finance explainers in clear terms so communities, partners, and funders can shape early concepts together — no jargon standing in the way of participation.

  3. (03)

    Early and open

In-development pilots shared openly while they take shape — not finished work presented as done. We publish what we are learning, including what is not working yet.

Manifesto

What if the people restoring the land also held the value it creates?

Carbon finance was supposed to reward the communities doing the work. Too often, they're the last ones to see it. We're building Carbon8 so Malawian farmers, cooperatives, and local stewards aren't just the labor behind a project — they're partners in it, with a real stake in its outcome from the start.

Carbon8 is what community-led restoration looks like when it's built with the people who live on the land, not around them.

How Our Approach
Works

We intend to build each project as a long-term partnership with the community carrying it forward — designed toward verifiable standards from day one.

(01)

Community Consultation

Before any project begins, we engage directly with local chiefs, cooperatives, and farmer groups to understand their priorities and ensure the project reflects the needs of the community it will affect.

Collaborative Restoration

We design and implement afforestation and reforestation projects in partnership with the communities involved, generating local employment and shared ownership rather than imposing a plan from outside.

(03)

Verification-Ready Development

Every project is developed and documented to meet the standards required by climate finance and carbon markets from the outset, ensuring credibility is built in rather than retrofitted.
